Two Nests: Reader's Theatre
Stories of divorced families were adapted by Cheng into a series of short plays and carried into different corners of the community. Collaborations were established with Non-profit organisations, through which members of separated families were engaged. These encounters unfolded in unexpected ways, revealing new layers of dialogue and reflection.
In one session, organised in partnership with Hong Kong Family Welfare Society, all of the participants were fathers from divorced families. After watching the performance, they were invited to create together. What emerged were poems, tender lines in which longing for their children was expressed. The verses carried both poetic resonance and a quiet sorrow, offering a glimpse into emotions often left unspoken.
Their poems and stories were then incorporated into the evolving performance; through these exchanges, theatre was reshaped into a space of participation, where the act of storytelling was no longer confined to the artist but was opened to those whose experiences formed the heart of the work.
